Bezeq, Israel's first phone company and a communications service leader, launched its "Bezeq Free Wi-Fi" service on Tuesday offering free wireless Internet surfing for users through client routers. Using client routers to channel wireless Internet connections enables the company to offer the service for free throughout the country. Users are now able to participate in the service through their smartphones, tablets or mobile PCs. In a continuation of Israel's ongoing communications revolution, the Bezeq Free Wi-Fi service enables unlimited surfing of the Web even when the user is not at home. Bezeq chose a social model for its technology and decided to facilitate a connection between a variety of wireless routers found in client homes. Clients who join the program sacrifice a small portion of their secure Internet surfing package in exchange for free, unlimited surfing throughout the country. The service enables any home-based router to become a Wi-Fi mobile hotspot device and anyone can join the program on Bezeq's Web page, Facebook page or through the Bezeq Free Wi-Fi application. Anyone who joins the service agrees to apportion part of their Internet package for the purpose of allowing others to surf the Internet through their router, and will be able to surf freely, at no cost, through the routers of others who have joined the program. Bezeq CEO Avi Gabbay said on Tuesday "The service is based on the concept of cooperation, which allows consumers to build a wonderful wireless social network on their own."
