The 2010 assassination of Hamas military commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai, widely attributed to Israels Mossad spy agency, created diplomatic crises for Israel at the time, and the event remains shrouded in mystery. Now, however, Israeli and French filmmakers are preparing to adapt the story for the big screen as a comedy. Mabhouh died in January 2010 when hitmen entered his Dubai hotel room and reportedly electrocuted and suffocated him. His killing attracted international attention due to allegations that it was carried out by Mossad agents holding forged or fraudulently obtained passports from several European countries and Australia. Dubai police consistently pointed the finger at Israel, even threatening to issue arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Mossad chief Meir Dagan over the assassination. Israel has never commented on the affair, and the complex operation, in which several disguised agents were caught on hotel cameras, remains unsolved. Israeli producer Michael Sharfshtein and French partner Manuel Munz are preparing to shoot a $5.2 million comedy called Kidon (Hebrew for Javelin) the supposed name of the Mossads assassination department. The film posits that French and Israeli small-time criminals killed Mabhouh and framed the Mossad. Munz said Monday that the film offers a suggestion of what happened in the Mabhouh operation, which remains a mystery.
