Israel Hayom honored by Tel Aviv Stock Exchange

On occasion of leading newspaper's 10th anniversary, owners Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson ring opening bell together with chief editor, publisher and CEO • Editor-in-Chief Boaz Bismuth describes Israel Hayom as "safest media stock" available.

Israel Hayom received the rare honor of opening the trading day at the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange on Tuesday, to mark the paper's 10th anniversary. Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson, the owners of the paper, rang the opening bell together with Editor-in-Chief Boaz Bismuth, publisher Asher Baharav and CEO Zippi Koren. Addressing the stock exchange, Sheldon Adelson said, "Israel Hayom, as its very name suggests, has an agenda. It is Israel's paper, and it is plainly obvious that we represent Israel. Israel means our work, our entrepreneurial spirit, our money, our property, and our future. Israel Hayom tells companies, businesses and businesspeople: We are behind you. We salute you and your successes. "We have no qualms about touting Israel's economy and showcasing the great things it has to offer. We believe it is essential to call upon the government to have more confidence in the business community, to lift regulation and cut taxes and to let us be the economy we want to be – the most successful economy in the world," Adelson said. He said that "despite the postmodern narrative that castigates businesses and wants to take them down, we consider rich people and wealth a blessing. We seek to make Israel a magnet for successful people and multinational corporations and hope that the Israel Securities Authority finds a way to make it easier for companies to raise capital through the stock exchange and that this place will know many more IPOs that will double and triple their value in the coming year." Adelson's wife, Dr. Miriam Adelson, also spoke, saying, "I take great pride in standing here today, in front of you, at the opening bell ceremony. Israel Hayom's finest are standing next to me. This team led the revolution in Israel's media market, a revolution that was made possible through hard work, conviction, and great passion for what we do. "What makes Israel Hayom's people so special is their deep sense of patriotism and their belief that the country can continue to rise and lead in a whole host of fields, from health care and technology, to agriculture and culture, and of course, economics." She concluded with a warm thank you to "our many readers." Following the Adelsons at the podium was Bismuth, who asked his audience to "imagine the past 10 years without Israel Hayom. What would Israel of 2017 look like? How would the media market look? Freedom of expression? The de facto monopoly on ideas and economics would have continued. The conservative voice would have been kept out of the media and the political discourse would have been controlled by only one, deciding group in the media. "For too many years, the Israeli majority lacked a proper platform. But then Israel Hayom, a truly Zionist and Israeli paper, came along – and the rest is history," Bismuth said. "Millions of men and women made Israel Hayom their friend. This paper is how they start their day. We will continue serving our readers for many years to come, and serve as the outlet for those who love their country, for anyone who is proud of being Israeli and to anyone who wants to keep this in mind. "I take great pride in standing here today at the opening bell ceremony. As chief editor, I run the safest media 'stock' one can hold. I was given a great responsibility a few months ago, and I hope I will deliver on our readers' expectations."
