אחרי חרושת שמועות, שהגיע לשיאה בינואר בעקבות היעדרותו של קרל לגרפלד מתצוגת הקוטור של שאנל, אמש פורסם שהמעצב המוערך הלך לעולמו. לגרפלד, שעמד בראש בתי האופנה שאנל, פנדי והמותג שנושא את שמו, היה בן 85 במותו, וממש עד לפני כמה חודשים המשיך ליצור, לפעול, לייצר פרובוקציות, להשפיע על עולם האופנה ולתחזק את קשריו הצמודים עם המפורסמות והמפורסמים, ממש כפי שעשה במשך 50 השנים האחרונות. לכן גם לכתו עורר לא מעט הדים וכוכבות וכוכבי פופ וקולנוע שעבדו בצמוד אליו לאורך השנים ניצלו את הרשתות החברתיות על מנת להספיד לאיש ולאגדה. הנה כמה מהתגובות המרגשות ביותר:

At a loss for words and so heartbroken by the loss of Karl. His humor, wit , love and passion for fashion will live on forever. Thank you for the inspiration that you gave to this world and for all of the hearts that you touched in the process. Every time I saw you it felt like the first time & I will miss your hugs so much.
