The mayor of the southern Bedouin town of Rahat, Talal al-Krenawi, on Sunday visited Shlomit Gonen, 65, who had been stabbed by a terrorist while shopping at a market in the town on Saturday. Krenawi was accompanied by Sigal Moran, the head of the Bnei Shimon Regional Council, where Gonen lives. Gonen sustained moderate injuries to her neck and was hospitalized at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba. She was released from the hospital in good medical condition on Sunday. Both Krenawi and Moran declared that the peaceful coexistence between Jews and Arabs in the area would continue. "We will not allow anyone to undermine the fabric of good relations between us," Krenawi said. "When Shlomit was stabbed, 68,000 residents of this city were stabbed. But no one will create cracks of any kind in our way of life. We are too strong for this to harm the fabric of our relations, and we urge the Israel Police to apprehend the terrorist, who is not a resident of this city." The attacker, believed to be a Palestinian residing illegally in Israel, managed to flee the scene. A large manhunt is currently underway for him.
