Netanyahu returns to business as usual after soccer injury

Prime minister tears tendon in left foot during soccer game with Jewish and Arab youths to promote tourism to Israel • Netanyahu was taking part in the filming for the American travel show where heads of state present their country's major tourist sites.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu experienced a few uncomfortable moments on Monday after tearing a tendon in his left foot while playing soccer with Arab and Jewish youths in Jerusalem.

The prime minister underwent a CT scan and had already returned to work on Tuesday, albeit in a cast that he will need to wear for several weeks.

Netanyahu played in the game as part of an international project promoting Israeli tourism. His office noted that during the game Netanyahu "slipped on the grass, got up, continued to play and scored a goal." After feeling the pain in his left foot shortly thereafter, his bodyguards whisked him away for medical tests at Jerusalem's Hadassah University Hospital at Mount Scopus.

The soccer game was being filmed for the American travel show, "The Royal Tour," where heads of state present their country's major tourist sites.

During the filming session on Monday, before his injury, Netanyahu had visited the City of David in Jerusalem's Old City and the Mount of Olives. Now, however, it appears that the project is in jeopardy of shutting down. Netanyahu was scheduled to climb Massada with the show and it's still not clear if his doctor will permit him to do so.

Netanyahu's office also posted a video to You Tube in which the prime minister, on his patio at home and in a cast, explained how he was injured and reassured the Israeli public that "[On Tuesday] I will return to my office and I will continue to play in other fields for the State of Israel."
