The celebrations of Israel's 69th Independence Day, which fell last Tuesday, might be over in Israel, but in the U.S., they're just getting started. The Israeli-American Council is putting on events in honor of the day in eight locations across the country. The first event took place in Chicago on Saturday and featured a performance by singer Ninet Tayeb. Similar events are scheduled to be held in Arizona, Los Angeles, New Jersey, Seattle, Las Vegas, New York, and Boston, and artists slated to appear include singers Dudu Aharon, Roni Dalumi, Lee Biran, Rinat Gabay, and the pop-rock group Ethnix. The celebrations are expected to draw some 50,000 attendees. Israeli-American Council CEO Shoham Nicolet said, "We are thrilled to bring people together from across the pro-Israel community to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jerusalem's reunification in what will be the largest celebration of Israel in the history of the Diaspora. "Israeli-Americans are very proud of the increasing role that we are playing as a bridge between America and Israel and within the Jewish and pro-Israel communities here in the United States," Nicolet said.
