Bodies of killed terrorists returned, contrary to policy

Diplomatic-Security Cabinet decides to consolidate inconsistent policy of returning bodies of terrorists • Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan: Do not return bodies • Return approved by political leadership.

Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman opposes the return of terrorists' remains

The bodies of two terrorists that committed terrorist attacks in the Hebron area were returned to their families over the weekend, with the approval of the political leadership.

This is contrary to a decision made in the Diplomatic-Security Cabinet last week stating that Israel should implement a uniform policy to not return terrorists' bodies.

According to the decision, the bodies of Hamas terrorists killed as they commit acts of terrorism shall not be returned to their families, and will instead be buried by security forces in a special cemetery until further notice.

This decision is consistent with Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman's and Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan's position, and rejects the stance of security officials who claim that returning bodies promotes calm.
