The annual report detailing the salaries paid to workers in Israel's public sector in 2014 has been released, and for the first time reports how much the heads of the nation's security agencies earn. The report showed that Shin Bet security agency Yoram Cohen earned an average of NIS 84,447 ($21,722) gross per month, while former Mossad head Tamir Pardo was paid NIS 82,985 ($21,329). Former IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz was paid an average of NIS 85,620 ($22,009) gross per month; former Israel Prisons Service head Aharon Franko earned NIS 88,757 ($22,815); and former Israel Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino earned NIS 89,365 ($22,972). Employees of Israel Railways were also paid well. Directors of the nation's railroad system earned NIS 43,800 ($11,259) per month and employees in the control center earned NIS 43,700 ($11,233). Despite the financial crises plaguing the Israel Broadcasting Authority, some of its employees were very well paid. An IBA camera operator and a senior supervisor each earned NIS 44,500 ($11,438) per month and one sound technician earned about NIS 45,000 ($11,500). The 37 highest-paid public positions listed on the report were all doctors or senior officials in the public health system. The single highest earner was a gynecologist whose gross monthly salary averaged NIS 127,888 ($32,874). The head of Israel Aerospace Industries was No. 38 on the list, earning NIS 116,900 ($30,049) gross per month. After the doctors and some pilots in the IAI, came employees of the nation's ports. The navigator at the Haifa Port earned NIS 95,900 ($24,650) per month, making him No. 155 on the list. Ashdod tailed behind Haifa, with its highest-paid employee in 209th place. The average salary for employees of the Ashdod Port Company for 2014 was NIS 28,255 ($7,263) gross per month, compared to NIS 28,050 ($7,210) at the Haifa Port Company or NIS 25,926 ($6,664) for employees of the Israel Ports Company. The average monthly salary for Bank of Israel employees stood at NIS 24,590 ($6,321), with Israel Electric Company workers earning an almost identical amount, NIS 24,530 ($6,305). Employees of the Mifal Hapayis national lottery earned an average monthly salary of NIS 23,686 ($6,088). Attorney Kobi Amsalem, director of wages in the Finance Ministry, said that "in some [government] bodies, salaries and working terms were set in group agreements that were, for the most part, issued after organizational steps were taken. Some of those steps were severe and not always executed after notification was given."
