Israel to UN: Condemn Red Crescent for neglecting victims

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon has approached U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and asked him to make a public condemnation of the Palestinian Red Crescent organization after one of its ambulances that was near the site of Friday's shooting attack near Otniel, which left Rabbi Yaakov Litman and his son Netanel dead,failed to stopand treat the wounded Israelis.

"An ambulance that doesn't treat wounded civilians is complicit in terrorism. We're talking about egregiously ignoring all universal moral values and contempt for human life," Danon wrote to Ban.

Danon also noted an ambulance not treating wounded people was a direct violation of international law.

Meanwhile, the Legal Forum for Israel on Monday contacted the Registrar for Nonprofit Associations in the Justice Ministry with an urgent request to cancel the Jordanian Red Crescent as a nonprofit group registered in Israel. The Forum said in its request that the Jordanian Red Crescent Association in Jerusalem was a registered nonprofit whose purposes include "helping the sick and people in need of aid in the time of a disaster or emergency."

However, according to the Forum, the incident of the ambulance that failed to treat the Otniel shooting victims was the latest in a series of incidents in which Red Crescent ambulances had been directly involves in terrorist acts targeting Israeli civilians or IDF soldiers.

Legal Forum General Director Nachi Eyal emphasized that "the Registrar has the authority to disqualify association that function as cover for illegal activity, which is the case with the Red Crescent. It is unacceptable that a registered nonprofit association, which declares that its purpose is helping people in times of crisis, harms and intentionally and negligently ignores Jewish wounded in need of its help."
