While touring Jerusalem on Thursday and speaking with security forces deployed across the city, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat met Doron Horowitz, a 50-year-old resident of Canada who volunteers for annual reserve duty in the Border Police.

A married father of two, Horowitz is the owner of a security consulting company that focuses on protecting Jewish communities. Speaking with Barkat, Horowitz said, "Israel is our country, and Zionism still exists. We should not take it for granted that we're here. We must serve and contribute on behalf of the Jewish people, unconditionally."

Barkat expressed admiration for Horowitz's service to Israel, "Even during these difficult times, there are touching moments that give us strength and show us what true patriotism and love of Israel and Jerusalem look like."
