Judy Shalom Nir-Mozes, wife of Interior Minister Silvan Shalom, is facing a backlash after posting a racist joke about U.S. President Barack Obama on Twitter Sunday. "Do u know what Obama coffee is? Black and weak," Nir-Mozes tweeted. Although she was quick to delete the post after a flurry of online commenters berated her for racism, many had already saved images of the post, which has since circulated online. The tweet came on the heels of the shooting deaths of nine black people by a 21-year-old white man at a church in Charleston, South Carolina, on Wednesday, highlighting serious and disturbing issues of racism in the United States. Realizing her misstep, Nir-Mozes went on to post an apology, writing, "I apologize, that was a stupid joke somebody told me." She also addressed Obama directly, saying that she likes people "no matter about their race and religion." She then continued her apology in a more light-hearted tone, tweeting, "Sorry if I caused any offence to anyone. I hope I will stay married when my husband will land and hear what I did." Last month, Silvan Shalom was appointed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to head negotiations with the Palestinians and oversee strategic dialogue with the United States.
