Former Maccabi Tel Aviv stars play in honor of fallen soldiers

Retired basketball stars over the weekend gathered to play in a tournament dedicated to the memory of soldiers, all residents of Gaza envelope communities, who gave their lives during Operation Protective Edge last summer.

The tournament was held in honor of reservists Master Sgt.‎ Ze'ev "Zevik" Etzion and Shahar Melamed from Kibbutz Nirim, Capt. Liad Lavi from Moshav Sde Nitzan, and Sgt. 1st Class Adi Briga from Beit Shikma in the Hof Ashkelon region.

Tournament participants included the children, teenager and adult teams from the Eshkol, Shaar Hanegev and Hof Ashkelon Regional Councils.

At the conclusion of the tournament an exhibition game was played between Hapoel Yad Mordechai and retired Maccabi Tel Aviv players, among them Doron Jamchi, Motti Daniel, Roni Busani, Alon Ben Zaken, Aulcie Perry and Tal Brody.
