Israeli actress, model and television hostess Moran Atias was selected to represent Israel at Expo Milano 2015, the upcoming world's fair set to begin in Milan on May 1. Atias, who has worked extensively in Italy, is expected to participate in the opening ceremony and other important events at the expo's Israeli pavilion. Israeli musician Ivri Lider was chosen to compose the original music to be presented at the fair. The expo, which will be open for five months, is the largest world fair and has taken place once every five years for the last 150 years. The theme for this year's fair is "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life." At the last expo, in 2010 in Shanghai, some 3 million people visited the Israeli pavilion. This year, organizers expect 140 countries and international organizations, including the United Nations, to participate, along with some 20 million visitors. The Israeli pavilion will present Israel's unique culture and character, while focusing on its technological advances in farming. On Sunday, the government will be briefed on the innovation exhibition, which will showcase Israeli agricultural achievements. The government, led by the Foreign Ministry and in collaboration with other organizations, invested 55 million shekels ($14 million) in the exhibition. It will include as a centerpiece a large agricultural field built at a 70-degree angle -- like a slanted wall -- featuring various crops, including chickpeas, potatoes, sweet potatoes, cherry tomatoes, carrots and peppers. After passing by the field, visitors will find themselves in an Israeli restaurant, where they will receive a pita bread to be filled as they please with food cooked from the crops grown in the field. In a preview video about the exhibition posted by the Foreign Ministry, Atias said: "At the Israeli pavilion, I will tell you what we, the Israelis, are most proud of: our farmers. We will tell you about trailblazing agricultural research, about inventions made in Israel that have changed the world, and thanks to which there is food on the tables of millions of people. We will show you that if your dreams are big enough, anything is possible."
