A gun battle between Palestinians and Israel Defense Forces troops broke out along the northern Gaza border on Thursday afternoon after the Palestinians opened fire on Israelis working on the border fence. No injuries on the Israeli side have been reported so far, but an IDF vehicle sustained some damages. The exchange of fire comes after two days of relative calm in the south following a violent weekend in which Palestinian terrorists fired several barrages of rockets into southern Israeli communities. The last rocket fell Tuesday overnight. No injuries were reported.
According to Israel Radio, the Palestinians fired small-arms fire as well as mortars at the Israelis.
IDF troops who arrived at the scene fired back at the Palestinians, and the gun battle was still ongoing, the IDF spokesperson said.
The Palestinians also reportedly fired mortar shells at the troops.
