Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson attended a plenary session entitled "Global Perspectives for Tomorrow" Wednesday at the Israeli Presidential Conference, taking place this week at the International Convention Center in Jerusalem. The couple also met with President Shimon Peres. Dr. Miriam Adelson, who serves as chairperson of the Israel-China Friendship Society, also met with Chinese Culture Minister Cai Wu, with whom she discussed joint Israeli-Chinese cultural and economic projects. During the session, the leaders exchanged opinions regarding some of the dilemmas and challenges facing world governments. The Chinese minister also participated in a special plenary on the Mideast and Asia, along with Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov, Dominican Republic President Leonel Antonio Fernández Reyna and Dennis Ross, Special Assistant to U.S. President Barack Obama.
The participants pointed out that the world economic crisis is not the only challenge facing world leaders today, and that others include social development, energy, climate change, regional conflicts and the threat of terrorism.
