Likud primaries may see 3 incumbent MKs ousted

With 38 candidates, including 16 incumbent MKs, vying for the top 15 slots on the Likud's Knesset roster, political analysts believe there is a strong possibility that Wednesday's primaries will see at least three MKs removed from party's Knesset list.

The Likud's 96,651 registered members are expected to cast their vote for the party's chairman and the Likud's Knesset list on Wednesday, and according to political analysts, many MKs are anxious about the potential results of the primaries.

With 38 candidates, including 16 incumbent MKs, vying for the top 15 slots, there is a strong possibility that at least three MKs will find themselves removed from the party's Knesset list.

The Likud has set up 600 polling stations across 115 locations nationwide. Party members would be asked to name Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, MK Danny Danon, or businessman Yoav Kisch as Likud chairman, as well as rank 11 candidates on the party's Knesset list.

While Likud hopefuls would be ranked across 40 slots on the party's national roster, it is the top 15 slots that are considered realistic Knesset seats. The party's list includes several guaranteed slots as well, which are eyed by 32 candidates. Former MK Ayoob Kara is the leading candidate for the party's 24th slot, reserved for a non-Jewish party member, while the leading candidate for the 25th slot on the list, reserved for a woman, is Nava Boker, the widow of Israel Police Brig. Gen. Lior Boker, who was killed in the 2011 Carmel Forest fire.

Party insiders said that two other prominent candidates who are likely to win realistic places on the list are former Public Security Minister Avi Dichter and former Deputy Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Michael Ratzon.
