Hotel rates in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv are among the highest in the world, according to a Bloomberg list of hotel prices in 106 cities worldwide published Friday.

Tel Aviv ranked No. 14 on the list, with an average hotel rate of $223/night. Jerusalem wasn't far behind, with the average nightly cost of a hotel room coming in at $203.

The two Israeli cities boasted higher average room rates than Tokyo (ranked No. 20), where the average hotel room rate is $198/night. Milan, the northern Italian fashion capital, was ranked No. 28 with an average nightly hotel rate of $185.

Moscow, generally perceived as a pricey city, was ranked 30th on the Bloomberg list (average room rate: $183). Berlin, a city known for its low cost of living, ranked 62nd, with a average hotel room rate of $145. Hotel rooms in Hanoi cost an average of $62/night, putting the Vietnamese capital at the bottom of the list.

Geneva led the most expensive cities for hotel users, with an average room rate of $308 per night. Bloomberg attributed the steep price of hotel stays there to high demand, since Geneva is a hub for U.N. groups and other international organizations.

Dubai in the United Arab Emirates was the second-most expensive city in terms of hotel rates, with the average cost of a room for one night coming in at $273. Kuwait was third, with an average room rate of $253, followed by Zurich ($250.) Miami, Florida, rounded out the top five with hotel rates averaging $245.

The next five cities with the most expensive hotel rates were Hong Kong ($242), Edinburgh ($241), London ($235), Singapore ($235), and New York ($233). Hotel rates in Paris were nearly identical to New York, averaging $232/night.

Interestingly, Eilat on the shore of the Red Sea -- one of Israel's top tourist destinations -- didn't make the list at all.
