Daily Mirror calls Tel Aviv 'cool and cosmopolitan'

In honor of low-cost airline easyJet's new route from Gatwick Airport to Ben-Gurion International Airport, eight British journalists take in Tel Aviv's delights • Daily Mirror reporter Trevor Davies: Tel Aviv is a fascinating and thought-provoking city.

Tel Aviv was given a glowing review on Saturday by British newspaper The Daily Mirror, which has a circulation of more than 990,000 copies. Reporter Trevor Davies wrote about his short visit to the Israeli city, titling the article, "Tel Aviv is a cool and cosmopolitan coastal city that totally confounded all my expectations."

Davies was one of eight British journalists to fly to Tel Aviv last month in honor of low-cost airline easyJet's new route from Gatwick Airport to Ben-Gurion International Airport.

"It was a pleasure to try the airline's first flight from Gatwick to the Mediterranean coastal city of Tel Aviv in Israel last month," Davies wrote. He praised the city's atmosphere, culture and nightlife, adding that "Tel Aviv's miles of quiet, clean, sandy beaches are the perfect antidote to a 4 a.m. finish or day's sightseeing in the ancient port of Jaffa at the southern end of the city."

He wrote fondly of the culinary offering, reserving special praise for restaurants Dr. Shakshuka in Jaffa and Vicky Cristina in "Hatachana" (the Old Train Station) compound. Davies recommended readers visit the bars, clubs and restaurants that line Rothschild Boulevard, one of the city's main arteries.

"You'll find Tel Aviv very laid back and informal," he wrote. "With its unique cosmopolitan mix of traditions and people, it's a fascinating and thought-provoking city."
