The Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson School of Entrepreneurship, the first school of its kind in Israel, was inaugurated on Sunday at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya college. The new institute, designed for excelling students, will provide pupils with all the knowledge and tools to realize their entrepreneurial ideas and ambitions. Among the attendees at the inaugural celebration were IDC President Professor Uriel Reichman, Nobel Memorial Prize winner in economics Professor Robert Aumann, Chinese Ambassador to Israel Gao Yanping, Israeli Ambassador to China Matan Vilnai and Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent a recorded congratulatory message for the school's opening. "It is an exciting moment to be opening the first school for entrepreneurship in Israel," said Reichman to the crowd. He went on to point out Adelson as a good example of an entrepreneur. "I followed the life story of Miriam and Sheldon Adelson," Reichman said, "His journey to the top was not easy. He discovered capabilities that will inspire our students. From his childhood in a poor Jewish neighborhood in Boston, he knew how to deal with failures and had a great share of successes on his way up." Reichman added that "the Adelson School of Entrepreneurship is about to change the academic status quo. For the first time, we will provide an entrepreneurial education, not just for business, but also for the needs of communities -- social entrepreneurship." Gao said that "China's growth is significant, and in order to maintain it, we need entrepreneurship in China, as well as high tech and other things that we can learn from Israel. These reforms will lead to cooperation between our countries." Adelson left the crowd with insight into entrepreneurship and the goals of the new school. "An entrepreneur is born with the mentality to take risks, though there are several important characteristics: courage, faith in yourself, and above all, even when you fail, to learn from failure and get up and try again. You can teach these characteristics." The Adelson family owns the company that is the primary shareholder in Israel Hayom.
