Israeli journalist Didi Menosi died Friday after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 85 years old.
The veteran journalist and satirist died at his Ramat Gan home. Family members called Magen David Adom after failing to wake him up, but the paramedics had no choice but to pronounce him dead at the scene.
Menosi was born in Kibbutz Geva, in the Jezreel Valley, in 1928. He studied literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and over the years he became one of Israel's most well-known lyricists and columnists. His rhyming satirical column, which dealt mostly with current events, was published in Yedioth Ahronoth's weekend magazine from 1962 to 2000.
Over the course of his career, Menosi penned five books and hundreds of songs, including several hits performed by the folk song group The Gevatron Chorus, which has been active for 60 years, and several of the key numbers featured in the 1964 Israeli classic "Sallah Shabati."
Menosi is survived by his wife and three children. His funeral was held on Sunday afternoon in Kibbutz Geva.
