In light of tensions in Syria and a possible U.S. strike still on the table, the award winning TV series "Homeland" has decided to shoot scenes originally scheduled to be filmed in Israel in Morocco instead.

According to Israeli media, the American producers of the show contacted their Israeli counterparts on Sunday to notify them of the decision. Estimates say that Israeli production companies are set to lose hundreds of thousands of shekels over the location change.

"Homeland" was adapted from the Israeli drama "Hatufim" ("Prisoners of War"). Its first season hit an all-time high for a new drama series on Showtime, the U.S. cable channel which has broadcasting rights for the show.

"Homeland" is one of several American TV shows inspired by Israeli shows in recent years. Small parts of the first season were also shot in Israel.
