Clinton still in trouble
, עודכן
It's safe to say Hillary Clinton breathed a sigh of relief on Tuesday when the head of the FBI decided not to recommend the indictment of the Democratic presidential candidate and former secretary of state in the email scandal. There are those who will say the decision leaves the door to the White House wide open for Clinton. But there's a problem when you are running for the most important job in the world, and five months before the election, the head of the FBI determines you are "extremely careless." It certainly won't help with voter enthusiasm on November 8.
For months, America had been waiting for FBI Director James Comey's decision. Of course, he cannot crown Clinton, but he could have destroyed her dream of becoming president. Comey chose not to recommend the Justice Department indict her, but he has left a mark on her candidacy. No American citizen wants to hear that their president acted carelessly and broke the rules when she used private email servers while she was secretary of state.
What else does a secretary of state handle day after day, hour after hour, besides classified documents? Therein lie the legitimate doubts of American voters whom Clinton is trying to win the support of.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump thought Comey's decision was unfair. But if Trump truly believes Clinton is a weak candidate, he should be pleased with the decision.
So both presidential candidates should be pleased today, albeit for different reasons -- Clinton, because despite the mark on her candidacy, she's still in the race, and Trump because, ultimately, he believes Clinton is a candidate he can easily defeat.
The elections in America are very intriguing. Just as the primaries were unique, the general election looks also to be turning into a real nail-biter. As of today, American commentators, who know a thing or two about elections there, are saying that Clinton will win by a landslide, but there are also those saying that Trump will surprise everyone. This election is shaping up to be one of the most extraordinary America has ever known.
There are those who say Trump is unfit or undeserving to be president of the U.S., and then all of a sudden the head of the FBI comes in and through his decision implies that Clinton is also unfit. It may be that Trump is too rash in his statements, but now we are hearing that Clinton can be negligent in her work.
In other words, if I were Clinton today, I'm not sure whether I would breathe easy or instead begin to worry.
