How low can the media go?
Why does much of the Israeli media try so hard to placate our worst enemies? When innocent Israelis are slaughtered by lowly Palestinian terrorists, the media fails to use the word "murdered." Instead, the victims were "shot," "stabbed," "run over" or simply "killed." This terminology is bizarre and stupid and it obscures the truth -- these Israelis were murdered. Murder is murder.
The Israelis murdered during the ongoing wave of Palestinian terrorism did not pose any threat to their attackers. The terrorists have had one goal -- to murder Jews because they are Jews.
Over the past week, the media found it right to present Tel Aviv terrorist Nashat Milhem and his family as unfortunate individuals. Who then, in the eyes of the media, was in the wrong? Anyone who insisted that Israeli Arabs obey the law, of course. That is to say the government, Shin Bet, police and courts.
Milhem was portrayed in the media as being mentally disturbed. If that were the case, he would have murdered his friends in his home village, not Jews in Tel Aviv.
It would have been better if the self-righteous Israeli media personalities sitting in their air-conditioned studios had dealt with the truth. Instead, it appeared they were in mourning over the terrorist's death.
Let's put all the cards on the table. Israeli Arabs who live in the Wadi Ara region possess thousands of illegal weapons. And thousands of illegal Palestinian workers are given shelter in illegally built homes in Wadi Ara.
The time has come to deal with the ticking time bomb that is Wadi Ara. But the media continues to present Wadi Ara residents as disadvantaged citizens. And who is to blame for their situation? The government, of course. The same government that just a week and half ago allocated an unprecedented 15 billion shekels ($3.8 billion) to reducing socio-economic gaps in the Arab sector. This revolutionary plan, which could dramatically improve the quality of life for Israeli Arabs, has one condition -- obey the law. Those who do not obey the law do not deserve anything. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made this abundantly clear and it was good that he did so.
The media reached a new low this weekend. Channel 2's Mako website published a report on the details of the Milhem's death, describing how he opened fire on Israeli counterterrorism forces and was eliminated by their return fire. Milhem "was shot and murdered" by the troops, the Mako report said. Yes, you read that correctly. Unbelievable. What has become of us? Alon Bakal, Shimon Ruimi, Ayman Shaaban were murdered, not Milhem. But the media seems to be in mourning for Milhem.
