The realities of jihad

America wants to know why the husband and wife from California -- who happen to be Muslims, there is no getting around it -- killed 14 people on Wednesday at a social service center for the disabled in San Bernardino. America wants to know the truth. And the truth in this case is perhaps extremely painful. It is very possible that Islamist terror is also operating in America, even if, under instruction from the president, it cannot be called by its name. It is very possible that California was the next in line after Paris.

President Barack Obama admitted on Thursday that "it is possible that this is terrorist-related." It is hard not to suspect this to be the case. The motives behind the couple's cruel and senseless killing spree are still unclear, but it appears the jihadi octopus seeking to spread its tentacles here and across the globe is connected to this incident as well. There are several signs which indicate that this couple was inspired by the call to jihad, which provided them not only with an excuse but a license to kill in the name of Allah.

After Americans learned the identity of the shooters on Thursday -- Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and his wife Tashfeen Malik, 27 -- only the motive remains unknown. "We don't know why they did it. We don't know at this point the extent of their plans. We do not know their motivations. ... It is possible that this was terrorist-related. But we don't know. It's also possible that this was workplace-related," Obama told reporters at the White House on Thursday. Administration officials presumably hope that this mass shooting, the likes of which have become so commonplace in the U.S., was an act of madness requiring a deeper look at confronting the gun control issue. If it was an act of terror -- well then the story is a very different one indeed.

With just a year before he concludes his presidency, Obama doesn't deserve this type of reality: It's very violent outside (in the world), but also inside (in the United States). And Obama, what does he want? He wants world peace and for everyone to just get along.

It's a little hard to believe that the shooting in San Bernardino was a spontaneous act, judging by what the local police chief said.

Both the husband and wife were gainfully employed and had started a family. There are no apparent signs of despair indicating a potential terrorist motive. "They came prepared to do what they did, like it was a mission," witnesses said. The GoPro cameras they used and the battle armor they wore is very suspicious. Another important factor to note is the proficiency with which they handled their semi-automatic rifles, which strengthens the theory that this was a well-planned attack for which they both trained.

The investigation is in full force, and we can expect new details to emerge, but we can assume that if this had happened anywhere else in the world, it would have already been labeled a terrorist attack. It is very possible that someone at work insulted Farook in some way. It is possible he was offended, but from there to responding in such a manner? The man who was shot by police along with his wife had also been in contact, allegedly, with a terrorist element. Without question, the couple's modus operandi and all the surrounding signs point to this being a terrorist attack.

Obama, who immediately upon entering office wiped the term "Islamic terror" from the protocol, has in recent months watched the jihadi movement grow in strength while striking a blow on almost every possible continent. This is what global jihad holds in store, even if Obama tries really hard to look the other way.

Like Obama, we, too, would very much like to think this tragedy wasn't inspired by religion. Sometimes, however, reality is stronger than our hopes, and those who refuse to confront it are blindsided by it.
