In Middle East, no room for optimism

To hear the words of the leaders of the post-Zionist leftist parties, who have cynically named themselves "the Zionist Camp," as well as the words of their agents in the media, one could get the impression that this is a group of people who boarded a spacecraft and are now heading out to nowhere among the stars, having forgotten where Israel is located and what challenges the country faces.

These people, with their socioeconomic focus, have forgotten one basic fact -- security is more important that any socioeconomic message. Anyone who tries to convince the public that the prices of chocolate pudding, cottage cheese and apartments in the Tel Aviv area are the main problems Israel faces has lost touch with reality. We do not have the luxury of having an election campaign that is focused on the cost of living, while the cost of protecting Israeli lives has yet to be decided. Defending the walls of our only national home is more important than the products we want to bring into our kitchens.

On Friday, Israel Hayom published an in-depth interview with outgoing Military Intelligence research division head Brig. Gen. Itai Brun, who is leaving his post after heading Israel's focal point of knowledge and information for four years. Brig. Gen. Brun, not one to play politics, explained to anyone who truly wanted to listen that in the Middle East, there is no room for optimism.

My conclusion is that it is very dangerous for us to be enthralled by the vision of a new Middle East that the Left has been trying to sell us for years. As Brig. Gen. Brun said, the Middle East will continue for the foreseeable future to be as complicated, conflict-ridden and violent as it has ever been.

Israeli citizens must ask themselves one question -- who can lead the country in the face of this complex and challenging reality? Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon? Or Isaac "I Conceded and I Gave" Herzog, Tzipi "Defense Minister" Livni, Stav "Change the National Anthem" Shaffir, Meirav "Don't Enlist in the IDF" Michaeli and Zuhair "I'm Palestinian" Bahloul? For me, the answer is clear -- we must not hand the future of the Jewish state over to new and inexperienced leaders.
