Do you want to turn Israel into Greece?

Is it anarchy you want? Great, let’s put on our red shirts, gather in the public square and sing the Internationale (the anthem of Utopian lunatics who murdered tens of millions for the sake of a better society). Let’s shout “the people demand social justice,” and “the revolution will crush privatization,” and who cares what happens next? You want to go back to socialism? To the good old days when Mapai (precursor to the Labor party) instilled integrity and equality?

Listen to the beautiful young women, budding acolytes of the New Israel Fund. Let’s hear about the future they plan for us amid their deep hatred for you-know-who. Let’s try to find meaning in the vapid hollow slogans meant to glamorize the inability to cope with harsh reality.

Let’s listen to the young generation as it parrots tired mantras they learned from aging professors -- prophets of revolutions that failed half a century ago. How sad that such a talented, sincere and well-meaning generation so lacks imagination. How unfortunate that a generation so full of vitality is aware of what it rejects, hates and despises but can’t think of a single positive solution aside from “give us more money.”

No, they want to enthrone the “will of the people” in the raging city squares. Democracy in the form of elections every few years can’t be trusted. The fact that the nation chose not to put the Balad party or even Meretz into power does not stop them. They want their own leaders, the educated and enlightened people who are superior and know what is good for the nation.

Observe how the crowd that lives by the talking points of the New Israel Fund (funded by millionaires for reasons hard to fathom) populates the dozens of fake grass-roots organizations established by Shatil. They are always seeking out action, not to mention jobs, money and job security for all. Oh, did we forget to mention equality-

As the New Israel Fund repeatedly explains, unless we make peace with that gang of thugs and murderers Ramallah, we cannot build a just and humane society. It’s not our fault if by helping to establish a Palestinian criminal state, we condemn the Palestinians to a hell built by the good intentions of the Israeli Left.

Like a baby clamoring for the breast who doesn’t care whether his mother is very tired or if he is exhausting her resources, our young people are demanding the government’s breast without caring if it goes bankrupt. Has it occurred to them that as much as it wants to, the government may be unable to provide all the needs they seem to be unable to provide for themselves as mature adults (affordable housing and employment for filmmakers, actors or musicians)?

As in Athens, our young people continue to shout “we demand social justice,” without a single one of them being able to explain what that is, how it is achieved or what it would cost. Is it worthwhile to mortgage our future for a hazy slogan? That, they don’t ask. After all, profit and loss calculations come from the despised world of the free market, where there are no free lunches, everything comes at the expense of something else, and we have to consider the annoying restraints of costs and benefits.

How sad that despite their many good qualities, our young people will continue, as their parents did, to collect crumbs from the tables of politicians who will revitalize them a minute before they die of hunger, momentarily appeasing them to prevent anarchy. The tent protests are the eternal outcry of those who are angry for being made suckers. They will fall apart eventually, just as quickly as they started.

Make no mistake, there is great distress in Israel, distress inflicted by politicians and tycoons. The protest of young people is justified. They are being choked by economic concentration.

Precisely for this reason, the protest must not dissipate into an atmosphere of Woodstock and anarchy that allows politicians, tycoons and their servants in the media to redirect the passion in dangerous directions or toward barren hatred. The serious cottage cheese protest, carried on the shoulders of responsible men and women with families who work hard but can’t close out the month, is something to throw our weight behind. These people truly want to improve society. They are victims suffering the brunt of the injustice of the corrupt system, not provocateurs seeking to stir up a commotion, bring down governments or instate ideological terror. These good people must be supported with all our might because they are our only hope for a real and most welcome change.
