The government and Knesset are planning to organize a massive charity event over the next two weeks in support of the Chabad organization and their envoys throughout the world. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to attend a special event in Tel Aviv next Thursday, involving Chabad emissaries and Jewish community leaders from Russia. The following Monday, a second event will take place in the Knesset, with hundreds of rabbis and Chabad emissaries from around the world in attendance. Initiating the events are chairman of World Likud MK Danny Danon and MK Avraham Michaeli, parliamentary group chairman for the Shas party. The guest of honor is expected to be Bukharan-Israeli businessman Lev Leviev, a major Chabad backer. "It is a great honor to host Chabad rabbis and their thousands of activists, individuals who have made it their mission to sincerely support the Jewish people, at all times," MK Danny Danon said. "The wonderful relationship we have with the thousands of Chabad emissaries proves that we are strong and united not only here in Israel but also in Jewish communities throughout the world," he said. While in Israel, Chabad rabbis will try to promote Chabad institutions on the international level. This became a primary goal especially after the fatal terrorist attack that took place three years ago in Mumbai, India, in which emissaries Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife, Rivka, were killed. Chabad is a private organization with institutions worldwide, including in the most remote regions of the Far East and South America. This enables Chabad to assist Israel's Foreign Ministry in many overseas efforts, such as locating missing Israelis, and supporting Israelis incarcerated in prisons outside Israel. Chabad regularly requests assistance from the Israeli government for their far-flung locations due to ongoing risks posed by terrorist threats and anti-Semitism. One of the more unique undertakings of Chabad emissaries involves assisting the Prime Minister's Office. Since some people who work and travel with the prime minister are religious, the office employs Chabad assistance for almost all diplomatic travel plans to arrange kosher food.
