Cabinet Secretary Tzachi Braverman is asking Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit to order a probe into whether MK Yoel Hasson (Zionist Union) committed a criminal act in a recent Twitter message.

When Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced at the beginning of the week that he was relinquishing the communications portfolio to MK Tzachi Hanegbi for a period of three months, Hasson tweeted a fake letter from Netanyahu supposedly resigning as prime minister as well. The spoof was issued on the official letterhead of the prime minister and with Netanyahu's signature.

In his appeal to Mendelblit, Braverman wrote that the Hasson tweet "intentionally misled the public and had no purpose other than harming the status of the prime minister. There is no doubt that intentionally manipulating the prime minister's [actual] letter by using his signature on another document is a crime under the criminal statute."

Hasson said in response: "It's good to find out that the prime minister, who is supposed to be dealing with threats on the scale of Iran, Hezbollah or Hamas, prefers to go head-to-head over a joke I posted to Twitter in protest."
