Israel's Supreme Court on Monday reduced by one year the prison sentence of former Israel Defense Forces soldier Anat Kamm. Kamm was convicted in 2011 on espionage charges and was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. With the Supreme Court decision on Monday, Kamm could be released 13 months from now, if her sentence is reduced by one-third for good behavior. During her service in the IDF Central Command, Kamm collected and leaked thousands of military documents, some of which were classified, to Haaretz reporter Uri Blau. Blau was sentenced to four months of community service. Kamm was convicted in February 2011 after pleading guilty in a plea bargain. She began serving her prison sentence in November 2011. The Supreme Court vote in favor of shortening Kamm's sentence was 2-1. Justice Edna Arbel, who voted in favor of reducing Kamm's sentence, explained that while Kamm's crimes were serious, she had admitted to her actions, cooperated with investigators and served significant prison time. The judge also noted that there was a low chance that Kamm, 25, would repeat her crimes. Israel Radio reported on Monday that Kamm was considering filing suit against Blau for revealing her identity.
