Israelis love their vegetables, according to a recent OECD survey which compared food consumption in 25 developed countries. Israelis eat an average of 197.6 kg (435.6 lbs.) of veggies annually per person, the survey found, making Israelis the third-highest consumers of veggies, behind Greece (257 kg or 566.6 lbs. per person annually) and Turkey (252.2 kg or per person annually). Yet, as well as loving vegetables, the survey found that Israelis equally love their sweets. According to the survey, the average Israeli consumes 38.8 kg (85.5 lbs.) of chocolate and candy per year, once again coming in third, this time behind behind Luxembourg (59.8 kg or 131.8 lbs. per person annually) and Mexico (53.1 kg or 117 lbs. per person annually). In the meat category, Israel ranks in ninth place, with the average Israeli consuming 68.3 kg (150.6 lbs.) of meat per person annually. The top meat-loving nation is Portugal, with its citizens consuming 105.9 kg (233.5 lbs.) of meat per person annually. It is followed by Canada, the U.S., Austria, Denmark, Greece, Ireland and Luxembourg. Israelis ranked 13th in consumption of fish, eating consuming 13.4 kg (29.5 lbs.) per person annually. The Portuguese lead this category as well, with citizens consuming 45.2 kg (99.6 lbs.) of fish per person annually. And Israelis rank 20th out of the 25 countries surveyed in egg consumption, with 6.7 kg (14.8 lbs.) of eggs eaten per person annually.
