Israel Police Commissioner Insp. Gen. Roni Alsheikh on Monday announced a new round of promotions to assistant commissioners, scheduled to take effect this summer pending approval from Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan. For the first time, an assistant commissioner responsible for the police instruction and training program will join the police high command, which currently comprises 15 officers. The next round of appointments will include two deputy commissioners, one operational and one administrative. The most notable appointment is that of Assistant Commissioner Gadi Siso, who will replace Deputy Commissioner Manny Yitzhaki, as head of the Investigations and Intelligence Division. Siso currently serves as Yitzhaki's second in command. Yitzhaki is expected to resign from the police upon concluding the investigations into Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. As a young officer, Siso made a name for himself while investigating the murder of underworld figure Pinchas Buhbut in 1999. In his previous post as commander of the International Crime Investigations Unit, Siso was instrumental in Case 512, one of the largest organized crime busts in Israeli history. The investigation led to the resolution of six murder and 15 attempted murder cases, along with indictments in 2015 against organized crime bosses Itzik Aberjil, Avi Ruhan and Rico Shirazi. In addition to Siso, Alsheikh promoted officers David Bitan to Tel Aviv district commander; Moti Cohen to southern district commander; Peretz Omer to coastal district commander; Ami Eshed to central district commander, and Avshalom Peled to head of the national headquarters.
