Attorney Jacob Weinroth, who represents Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a variety of matters, said Saturday that attorney David Shimron, Netanyahu's lawyer, was not expected to receive any monetary bonus whatsoever if the scrutinized submarine deal with German shipyard ThyssenKrupp is signed.

Speaking with Channel 2's "Meet the Press," Weinroth said that in all of the years of Shimron's dealings with Israeli businessman Miki Ganor, ThyssenKrupp's representative in Israel, Shimron's total remuneration never exceeded 700,000 shekels (around $180,000).

"Ganor has known David Shimron socially since 2006. Shimron has represented Ganor since 2012. The agreement between Ganor and the shipyard, regarding his appointment [as its representative in Israel], was made without any involvement on the part of Shimron," said Weinroth.

He continued: "The German shipyards appointed Ganor as their consultant, with a different attorney, without anything to do with Shimron. In 2012, Shimron was asked to represent Ganor, whom he represented in the contract [negotiations] with the German company. German lawyers handled the submarine matter, and David Shimron wasn't involved at all."

Weinroth added that Netanyahu "never felt deceived or angry" regarding Shimron, because he was not involved in the submarine deal. "The facts were the first to suffer in this whole story," Weinroth said.

"There is nothing here. Even if the prime minister would have known -- and he didn't know a thing -- nothing in this entire affair was beyond what the attorney general outlined in writing pertaining to conflicts of interest," he said.

"I have represented Netanyahu since 1996, and ultimately Netanyahu is one of those people for whom corruption is as distant as east and west. This is something I am familiar with from up close. Netanyahu is not capable of doing what is being attributed to him. Even the attorney general said he cannot find a reasonable doubt."

Discussing the guidelines pertaining to conflicts of interest, Weinroth said Shimron was prohibited from "approaching any government office, over any deal or matter, only through [that office's] attorney general. Shimron can approach the attorney general on any issue. The logic behind this is that the attorney general has other oversight mechanisms at his disposal. The Defense Ministry's legal adviser is not subordinate to the defense minister."

Therefore, regarding Shimron's inquiry with the Defense Ministry's legal adviser, Weinroth said, "Israel wanted to purchase ships. At a certain stage they considered a tender. They forgot one small thing, that according to directives from the European Union, the German government cannot aid shipyards, which is why a situation occurred where the tender could have impeded everything. As someone who represents Ganor, why can't [Shimron] call and ask if the order to issue a tender was going through or being canceled-"
