Several hours after being murdered in a terrorist attack in Jerusalem's Geula neighborhood, Rabbi Yeshayahu Krishevsky, a member of the Pinsk-Karlin hassidic sect of Judaism, was laid to rest in the Givat Shaul cemetery. He was 59.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat, who was among the masses accompanying Krishevsky to his final resting place, spoke to young ultra-Orthodox funeral goers and tried to calm their fears as violence engulfed Jerusalem in the worst spate of terrorism the city has seen in years.

With the pain evident in his voice, Rabbi Elimelech Biderman eulogized the deceased, saying that like every Rosh Hodesh (the start of the Jewish month), Krishevsky made sure to read from the Torah at his synagogue shortly before he was murdered.

"A half hour later you went up to heaven," Biderman said, his voice cracking. "Go up to the God's throne and tell Him, blessed be He, to stop it!"

Yaakov, another funeral goer, said with tears in his eyes: "This is a great and difficult loss. The deceased was a God-fearing, kind man. He prayed Shacharit (morning prayers) at in the Beit Yisrael neighborhood and after prayers he was on his way to his hevruta (his study partners). He waited for the bus and then the terrorist came and ran him over and murdered him in cold blood."

"What have we come to that a Jew is murdered in the holy city after prayer? It is shocking," he added.

Others spoke of Krishevsky's great knowledge of Torah and hailed the book he had written -- "Pninei Yeshayahu" (Yeshayahu's pearls).

He was survived by his only son, Shneor.

Shoshana doesn't know her husband is dead

The family of Shoshana and Haviv Haim, an elderly couple caught in another terrible terrorist attack aboard a bus in Jerusalem's Armon Hanatziv neighborhood Tuesday, gathered at the intensive care unit of the Shaare Zedek Medical Center and could not believe what had happened.

Haviv was murdered by the terrorists and Shoshana was still being treated under medically induced coma. According to eyewitness accounts, the couple were the first to be shot when the terrorists opened fire and simultaneously went on a stabbing spree.

Haviv sustained a fatal head injury. He was 78. He is survived by five children. Shoshana was seriously wounded but is still fighting for her life. Doctors said that they would not try to pull her out of the coma until after her husband's funeral, scheduled for Wednesday.

Benny, Haviv's nephew, recounted the events that led up to the tragedy. "Haviv accompanied his wife to the doctor's office, and a regular day began in Armon Hanatziv, where they lived. On the way back, he was murdered by vile miscreants and his wife was seriously wounded. Right now she is in the trauma room. We are all hoping that she pulls through and begins her recovery."

The nephew said that their family was a quiet, pleasant one. "They moved to an apartment in Armon Hanatziv several months ago and renovated it so that they could live in peace and quiet. The life of an honest, loving, quiet man was cut short."

"He and his wife raised their children in an exemplary manner. The entire family is in shock. We are not capable of processing what has happened. They went to the doctor and it ended in murder. They found themselves on a bus without any way to defend themselves. It boggles the mind," he said.

Benny said that the attack has taught him an important lesson. "I have been living in Jerusalem for 31 years, and I own a gun. Now I will start carrying it."
