Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai said Saturday that he might run in the upcoming Labor Party leadership race. Huldai, who was speaking at a social gathering in Tel Aviv, said he would make a final decision in the coming months. "A lot of people -- from every segment of our society -- have approached me on the matter. They want me to throw down the gauntlet," Huldai said, adding that he was still weighing his options. "I am not going to throw my hat in the ring just because I feel like it; I need to make some very tough decisions." Huldai, 70, has been mayor for almost two decades. His is also a former combat pilot in the Israeli Air Force. According to the Labor Party charter, the party has to elect a leader no later than 14 months after an unsuccessful general election, which is defined as a failure to form a Labor-led government. Incumbent Chairman Isaac Herzog currently has no declared challengers.
