Sirens sounded across the Golan Heights and in the Hula Valley on Tuesday, alerting of incoming projectiles from Syria. Two rockets struck open areas near the communities of Ein Zivan and Odem in the north, causing no injuries or damage. Initial assessments suggested the explosions were caused by Syrian mortar shells, errant fire from the fighting in nearby Quneitra. IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot visited the area earlier on Tuesday, as tensions along the Israeli-Syria border intensified in recent days. Accompanying him was IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Moti Almoz, who said, "We are doing everything in our power to keep the border area calm and secure." The incident came two days after an Israeli air strike killed four terrorists as they tried to place explosives on a fence near the Syrian frontier. "Four terrorists placed an explosive on a fence near Majdal Shams and an Israeli aircraft shot and killed them," an unnamed Israeli military source said, identifying a Druze village at the foot of strategic Mount Hermon. The IDF Spokesperson's Unit issued a terse statement saying the air force had thwarted an attack at the Israeli-Syrian border, saying it "targeted the squad, preventing the attack."
