The Palestinian Authority on Thursday marked the 37th anniversary of a Fatah terrorist attack in which an Israeli bus traveling on the coastal highway was hijacked and 35 passengers were murdered. It is one of the worst terrorist attacks committed inside the Green Line. An event in Ramallah marking the event was attended by ministers and senior officials in the PA government. As part of the ceremony, a square between Ramallah and al-Bira was rededicated in the name of Dalal Mughrabi, the female terrorist who oversaw the bus attack. Mughrabi was killed when security forces seized control of the bus. The decision to dedicate the square to Mughrabi has sparked controversy in the past. The Palestinians originally planned to hold the ceremony a few years ago, during a visit by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden to Israel and Ramallah. At that time, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with Biden and raised the issue, asking the vice president to request that the Palestinians not name the square after Mughrabi.
