Is Iran targeting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's sons for assassination? According to Iranian news website Mashregh, Iran could seek revenge for the recent killing of several Iranian military figures in a strike attributed to Israel, and the prime minister's sons are among the potential targets.

On Jan. 18, an airstrike on the Syrian side of the border in the Golan Heights killed several high-ranking Hezbollah and Iranian figures. Among those killed were Jihad Mughniyeh, the son of assassinated Hezbollah military commander Imad Mughniyeh, and an Iranian general, Mohammed Ali Allahdadi.

The strike came days after Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah vowed that Syria and its allies would respond to any Israeli "aggression" on Syrian soil.

The Iranian website featured a photo of Netanyahu's sons, Yair and Avner, with sniper's scopes superimposed on their faces. The list of potential targets on the website also included Gilad and Omri Sharon, sons of the late former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, as well as Shaul Olmert, the son of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

The Iranian article stated that the potential Israeli targets, all sons of prime ministers, fulfilled the criteria for assassination because they all served in the Israeli military. The article presented each target individually, expanding on the specific reasons each one was selected as a target.

The website mentioned that Avner Netanyahu, 20, chose to serve in a combat unit even though he had the opportunity to serve in the Spokesperson's Unit in a noncombat role.
