Nava Boker, the widow of Israel Police Brig. Gen. Lior Boker, who was killed during rescue efforts in the 2011 Carmel Forest fire, will be running for a spot on the Likud list in the upcoming primaries.

Boker is running for spot 25 on the list, which is typically kept for new women in the Likud. If elected, she plans to promote fire and emergency services issues in the Knesset, a cause dear to her heart.

Her husband died in the blaze while attempting to rescue prison guard cadets from a bus that had caught fire. The police posthumously granted him a Medal of Valor and the International Police Association granted him the World Police Prize in 2011.

Boker since established a foundation that supports fire and rescue workers.

Having worked in the past as a reporter on welfare issues, she also plans to raise issues of housing and cost of living if elected.

"I believe in the Likud and in the prime minister," she said on Sunday after signing up to run in the primaries. "I saw him doing his job well during hard times, especially during war, and I definitely believe in his abilities and his path.

"I am entering this race at the last minute with a pure heart, without any deals, and I know that if I am elected, I will attend to all the issues that I have been dealing with since the disaster, only in position of influence as a member of Knesset."

Having not been a Likud member for the required amount of time before running, Boker also applied for approval from the party leader that would allow her to run despite that fact.

As of Sunday's deadline, 141 candidates were in the running for the national Likud list, in addition to 40 candidates running for spots reserved for specific counties.

The vote for the primaries is set for Dec. 31, the same date as the election for party chairman.
