With two weeks remaining before Israel's presidential election, MKs Reuven Rivlin (Likud), Binyamin Ben-Eliezer (Labor) and Meir Sheetrit (Hatnuah), former MK Dalia Itzik (Kadima), and Nobel Prize laureate Prof. Dan Shechtman have each garnered the necessary 10 MK signatures to run for the post. Former Supreme Court Justice Dalia Dorner has received nine signatures and is expected to gain the 10th by Tuesday night's deadline to submit candidacies to Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein. In recent days, a group of 14 Israeli women, including singers Rita, Achinoam Nini and Riki Gal, sent a letter to MKs calling on them to support Itzik's candidacy. The next president, who will replace Shimon Peres in July, will be chosen by the Knesset in a secret vote on June 10.
