The recent arrest of a Muslim terrorist in India led to the bolstering of security at Israeli and Jewish institutions in Mumbai and other parts of the country during the High Holidays.
According to Indian media reports, local police contacted the institutions and recommended to them to elevate their alertness and install security cameras.
It is believed that planned attacks included the kidnapping of Jewish people for use as bargaining chips to secure the release of Islamist terrorists imprisoned in Indian jails.
Israel's consul general in Mumbai, Jonathan Miller, said that Israeli officials looked into the threats.
"We're very pleased with the level of security provided by Indian authorities," Miller said.
The warnings stemmed from the arrest of Yasin Bhatkal, an Indian Mujahideen leader. Bhatkal, 30, told interrogators that members of his group had been gathering intelligence on Jewish institutions, including the Chabad house that was targeted during the November 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
Meanwhile, police in the Russian province of Dagestan announced that anti-terror forces on Friday killed Sherif Akhmedov, who was responsible for the July shooting of Chabad Rabbi Ovadia Isakov in the city of Derbent.
Akhmedov, who was suspected in numerous attacks, was killed along with four other terrorists in an operation carried out by Russian security forces in Derbent on Friday.
In July, Isakov was shot after he exited his car outside his home in Derbent. He was seriously wounded in the shooting and was flown to Israel for medical treatment.
