A special rescue operation by the Jewish Agency brought a 19-year-old electrocution victim to Israel on Wednesday, for urgent medical treatment.
David Finti, a young Romanian Jewish activist, was severely electrocuted and suffers from burns all over his body. The young man arrived in Israel by air-ambulance accompanied by his parents. He was rushed to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem for treatment immediately upon landing.
Last Thursday the Jewish Agency received a call from the Jewish community in Bucharest concerning a young leader in the community who had been electrocuted and badly burned when he boarded a tram. He was hospitalized in intensive care at a Bucharest hospital, unconscious. Members of the Jewish community in Bucharest turned to the Jewish Agency representative in Romania, Eli Yitzhaki, and asked for the Jewish Agency to help bring the young man for medical treatment in Israel to save his life because Romania does not have the same advanced medical equipment that Israel has.
The operation by the Jewish agency was conducted with the help of several institutions, including the JDC-Bucharest, the Health Ministry, headed by director-general Roni Gamzu, and the Ministry of Immigrant Absorption headed by Minister Sopha Landver. Each of these individuals became personally involved in bringing the young man to Israel for life-saving treatment, as well as in absorbing him as a new immigrant so that he can get the medical treatment he needs free of charge.
