The Israel Air Force bombed smuggling tunnels and weapons manufacturing workshops in the Gaza Strip overnight Saturday, Army Radio reported.

The bombing came in response to a border shooting on Friday in which an Islamic Jihad terrorist crossed the Gaza border fence and killed Staff Sgt. Netanel Moshiashvili by firing at him from close range.

The IAF identified direct hits on three weapons workshops belonging to Hamas and Islamic Jihad. In addition, IAF bombs hit two smuggling tunnels, one in the north and the other in the south of the Gaza Strip.

"The Israel Defense Forces will not tolerate any attempt to hurt Israel's citizens or IDF soldiers, and will continue to take action to stop anyone who uses terrorism against the State of Israel," the IDF Spokesperson's Unit said in a statement. "The terror organization Hamas is to blame, and it carries the responsibility."

Moshiashvili, 21, of Ashkelon, was killed Friday morning when troops exchanged fire with a Palestinian infiltrator who had crossed the border fence near the Kissufim crossing.

The IDF has launched an investigation into the incident to determine how the terrorist was able to evade spotters and surprise soldiers.
