Ahead of the Knesset elections on March 17, the ultra-Orthodox Shas party continues to signal that its preference is to join a right-wing government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Shas MK Yakov Margi, No. 4 on the party's list, said Monday that most of the party's constituents want Shas to be part of a right-wing government. "The majority of our public is right-wing and this is the preferable direction for us," Margi told Israel Hayom. "Some voters are hesitant [to support Shas] because they do not know or are concerned about what Shas will do after the elections. Our public wants to vote for Shas, but they also want to be certain that Shas will be in a right-wing government." In Margi's view, Zionist Camp leader Isaac Herzog's only chance of forming a Left-led government would be if he was somehow able to bring in the ultra-Orthodox parties. Meanwhile, Israeli Arab MK Ahmad Tibi, No. 4 on the Joint Arab List, said Monday that his party would only recommend Herzog as prime minister if Herzog promises not to form a unity government with the Right. Also on Monday, Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid said his party would push for new anti-corruption legislation in the next Knesset. "The days during which the corrupt partied at our expense are over," Lapid said.
