As the fighting in Gaza continued over the weekend, the northern branch of the Islamic Movement held a series of demonstrations against the government and the Israel Defense Force's operation in the Gaza Strip. The main demonstration was held on Saturday in the western Galilee Arab city of Tamra. More than 10,000 demonstrators took part. Protesters waved Palestinian, Hamas and Islamic Movement flags and banners and called out slogans against the Israeli government and the IDF, claiming that "genocide is being committed in Gaza." At the head of the protest marched the northern branch of the Islamic Movement's firebrand leader, Sheikh Raed Saleh. Marching alongside Saleh were several children holding baby dolls draped in shrouds stained with blood-red paint, symbolizing attacks against children in Gaza. The demonstration began without any serious disruptions save a few attempts by activists to disrupt the order and confront police officers. Among the demonstrators were Arab Knesset members and public officials, including MK Hanin Zoabi, as well as several left-wing activists. Meanwhile in Judea and Samaria, several more demonstrations were held, but those spiraled into violence as protesters clashed with IDF forces. Palestinians reported that two people were killed in the ensuing confrontations. In Ramallah on Friday, a Palestinian in his 20s was shot to death during a demonstrations as protesters clashed with the IDF. At a separate protest in Tulkarem, some 2,000 demonstrators gathered. Many threw stones, metal pipes and firebombs at IDF forces. A 24-year-old Palestinian was killed.
