Turkish-Israeli relations hit a low point following the May 2010 Mavi Marmara incident, when clashes between pro-Palestinian militants attempting to breach Israel's naval blockade on the Gaza Strip and Israeli commandos resulted in the deaths of nine Turkish nationals. A year ago, under pressure from U.S. President Barack Obama, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologized for the incident in a phone call to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Professor Alexander Bligh, director of the Middle East Research Center at Ariel University, discusses why Israel-Turkish relations have not improved since then, whether Turkey wants a rapprochement with Israel, and how internal instability and violence in Turkey may affect the situation.
