IAF strikes two Gaza terror sites in response to rocket fire

Qassam rocket hits Sdot Negev area during Lag Ba'omer celebrations • No injuries or damage reported • IAF responds by targeting a terrorist facility and a weapons storage site in southern Gaza • IDF: We won't permit situation to return to what it was before Operation Pillar of Defense.

The Israel Air Force bombed two sites in the Gaza Strip early Sunday morning in response to a Qassam rocket that was fired from Gaza into southern Israel on Saturday night.

IAF aircraft targeted a terrorist facility and a weapons storage site in southern Gaza. Direct hits were confirmed, according to the IDF Spokesperson's Unit.

Also due to Saturday night's rocket fire, the Kerem Shalom and Erez border crossings between Israel and Gaza were temporarily closed on Sunday, the IDF said.

The Qassam rocket that was fired from Gaza into Israel on Saturday hit the Sdot Negev area. There were no reported injuries or damage.

The "Code Red" rocket warning sounded as hundreds of children were celebrating the Lag Ba'omer holiday with bonfires. Following the rocket attack, security officers instructed area residents to return to their homes.

The IDF said it would not permit the situation in southern Israel to return to the way it had been before Operation Pillar of Defense in November, and that Hamas was responsible for all terrorist activity emanating from Gaza.

"We will not permit a policy of drizzle. A drizzle of missiles or a drizzle of rockets will encounter a very firm response and we will take all required steps to protect the safety of our citizens," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at Sunday's cabinet meeting. "We will do whatever it takes to defend the State of Israel and its citizens, in the north and in the south, in every sector."
