Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in New York on Sunday night in advance of his annual address to the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday, and was welcomed at his hotel by a unique gift basket from the New York Post. The welcome basket, according to the Post, included local goods such as Golds borscht, Manischewitz gefilte fish and smoked whitefish from the world-famous Murrays Sturgeon Shop on the Upper West Side, H&H bagels, onion bialys and Zabars cream cheese. The gift basket also included a $125 ticket to the off-Broadway play Old Jews Telling Jokes which was booked in his name, the Post reported. According to the Post, "Anticipating the schlumpy, unshaven dictators penchant for wearing the same suit all week long, we thoughtfully included 'I Love NY' undies and a stick of Irish Spring deodorant, to keep the flies away. "For those quiet moments away from spinning centrifuges, he can relax with a good book. But since its likely he cant read the truth about 9/11, which he condemns as 'a big lie,' theres a picture book, 'The 9/11 Report,' a graphic adaptation by Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colon." In addition, the Post packed the Iranian president a brochure for the Museum of Jewish Heritage: A Living Memorial to the Holocaust. "The Holocaust denier might want to learn something about the subject by taking in a tour," the Post suggested on its website. Meanwhile, according to the Post, attempts to hand-deliver the care package to Ahmadinejad, "prompted a U.S. Secret Service agent to walk over and say, 'This isnt gonna happen. You have to go.'"
