"Up close, he looks more like a seed merchant than someone who is running a nuclear program," the head of the Knesset Economic Affairs Committee MK Carmel Shama Hacohen (Likud) said Thursday, after a brief encounter with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development currently being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Shama Hacohen was making a pun, as the Hebrew word for nuclear (gar'in) also means "seed". Shama Hacohen, who is a member of the Israeli delegation to the conference, said the Israeli participants were seated in close proximity to the Iranian delegation because of the alphabetical seating arrangement, which placed Israel and Iran's representatives essentially right next to each other. "To the surprise of the Foreign Ministry officials, when the lunatic and his people rose from their seats, they broke with tradition and passed by us rather than go through a detour," Shama Hacohen wrote on his Facebook page. "The megalomaniac from Iran took it a step further: Despite the sign that says 'Israel' on my desk and the lapel pin on my jacket, he nodded and smiled toward us."
