Netanyahu’s housekeeper was bent on revenge, mediator says

Netanyahu family housekeeper claimed that Sara Netanyahu, the prime minister’s wife, abused her • Mediating attorney Nachum Feinberg says the housekeeper’s behavior constituted bullying, was cruel, and she is denied any right to damages.

A former housekeeper for the Netanyahu family, Lilian Peretz, received a harsh rebuke on Monday from attorney Nachum Feinberg, who was assigned to mediate in the case of a lawsuit Peretz brought against Sara Netanyahu, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s wife, according to a report by Channel 2.

Feinberg reportedly said in a statement “The prime minister’s wife, Sara Netanyahu, became a punching bag. The aim of the case brought by Lilian Peretz was to publicly ridicule Mrs. Netanyahu. This is an unacceptable violent act.”

Peretz - who was hired to clean the Netanyahu residence - filed a suit against Sara Netanyahu in Jan. 2010, for what she claimed was mistreatment and underpayment. In her suit, Peretz asked for NIS 300,000 ($80,500).

Through her attorney, Assaf Sharaf, Peretz claimed that the prime minister’s wife abused her at times and paid her less than the legal minimum wage. Feinberg - among the leading experts in labor law in Israel - however, stated explicitly that Peretz acted in a bullying and cruel manner when she decided to conduct a public campaign against and character assassination of Sara Netanyahu.

According to Channel 2, Feinberg did not find any evidence that Netanyahu paid Peretz less than the minimum wage, as Peretz claimed in a Haifa labor court in 2010. However, he did reportedly find that Netanyahu owes her NIS 7,000 ($1,900) for work she did on Saturdays, NIS 4,500 ($1,200) for vacation days, NIS 13,000 ($3,500) reimbursement for various expenses, and NIS 3,000 ($800) for convalescence pay.

Feinberg reportedly said that despite the money owed to Peretz, due to the ease with which she chose to “spill Mrs. Netanyahu’s blood,” her behavior does not warrant any payment from Netanyahu at all.

Two mediators preceded Feinberg in trying to reach a compromise in the case. After Feinberg - who conducted four meetings between the sides - failed as well to achieve an agreement between Netanyahu and Peretz, Netanyahu’s attorneys, David Shimron and Michael Rubillo, began to prepare a counter-suit for hundreds of thousands of shekels against Peretz based on three charges: violation of confidentiality, violation of privacy and slander.

The case is set to return to the Haifa labor court.
